Climbing Program – Yanapaccha Peak (2 days / 1 night)
This specialized two-day program serves as the ultimate technical training ground in the Cordillera Blanca, beginning with a scenic approach through the Llanganuco Gorge to a high-altitude base camp at 4,800 meters. The first day focuses on essential glacier skills, preparing climbers for a thrilling summit push that features steep ice walls and pitches of up to 60 degrees. Reaching the 5,460-meter summit of Yanapaccha rewards mountaineers with a unique, close-up perspective of the massive Chacraraju and Huascarán, concluding with a professional rappelling descent and a seamless return to Huaraz.

Your Itinerary
Day 1: Huaraz (3,100 m) – KM 42 – Yanapaccha Base Camp (4,800 m)
- 6:00 a.m.: Pickup in Huaraz and transfer by private transport to Llanganuco Gorge (approximately 3 hours).
- 9:00 a.m.: Arrival at KM 42 (4,400 m above sea level). Equipment check, backpack preparation, and brief safety briefing.
- 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM: Approach hike to Yanapaccha Base Camp (4,800 m).
- Duration: 1.5 hours.
- Elevation gain: +400 m.
- 1:30 PM: Camp set-up, lunch, and rest.
- 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Practice glacier techniques: crampon and ice axe use, roping, and self-arrest.
- 6:00 PM: Dinner at camp. Briefing on the ascent route and weather conditions.
- 8:00 PM: Rest in tents (night temperatures between -5°C and -8°C).
Day 2: Base Camp (4,800 m) – Yanapaccha Summit (5,460 m) – Huaraz
- 1:00 a.m.: Wake up, have a light breakfast, and prepare your technical equipment.
- 1:30 a.m.: Begin the ascent. A glacier route with gradients of 40° to 60°, with the use of ropes, ice screws, and roped progression.
Key sections:
Glacier ascent with medium crevasses.
Final gradient of 60° with two ice/mixed pitches (approx. 80 m).(40°–45°).
- 6:30–7:30 am: Arrival at the summit of Vallunaraju Peak (5,686 m).
- Panoramic views of the Cordillera Blanca: Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Ranrapalca, Ocshapalca, and Huantsán.
- 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.: Arrive at the summit of Yanapaccha (5,460 m). Time for photos and views of Chacraraju, Huascarán, and Chopicalqui.
- 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM: Rappelling descent and return to base camp.
- 12:00 PM: Lunch at camp and dismount.
- 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Return hike to km 42.
- 4:30 PM: Transfer by private transport to Huaraz.
- 7:00 PM: Approximate arrival in Huaraz.
